In the United States, three cyber fraudsters appropriated cryptocurrencies worth $ 722 million

The US authorities have charged three US citizens with fraudulent actions with cryptocurrency worth about $ 722 million, the US Department of Justice website said on December 10.

According to the agency, two Colorado residents are charged with conspiracy to commit electronic fraud, and a resident of California is charged with conspiracy to illegally sell securities. One of the accused has already been detained by US law enforcement officers, the rest are still at large

Attackers are accused of appropriating cryptocurrency through the implementation of a fraudulent scheme in which, to thousands of victims, they promised a high income from investing in cyber money. The Justice Ministry believes that fraudsters allegedly misappropriated hundreds of millions of dollars, for several years attracting more and more trusting “investors” and using their financial resources. The agency reported that the defendants received cryptocurrencies worth about $ 722 million.

In the event that the court recognizes the guilt of the accused, two of them face imprisonment for up to 20 years and a fine of 250 thousand dollars for electronic fraud. Another faces up to five years and a similar fine.
