Astronomers have discovered a planet on which it rains iron

New exoplanet called WASP-76b

A new “hot” exoplanet has been revealed in the universe. The heavenly body was discovered by scientists from the University of Geneva, who declared the uniqueness of the planet. The thing is that it is raining on it from molten iron.

The European Southern Observatory reported that the planet was named WASP-76b. It is located at 640 light-years from Earth. It has a “day” and “night” side. Moreover, the exoplanet (located outside the solar system. – Ed.) Is always turned to only one “day” side.

The temperature on this side reaches 3000 degrees Celsius. Because of this, the molecules are divided into atoms, after which the iron from the surface of the celestial body begins to evaporate.

But the temperature on the “night” side of the WASP-76b is half that – only 1,500 degrees. Due to such a difference, strong winds blow on the planet. Streams of air carry the evaporated iron to the cold side, where it cools and falls to the surface in the form of rain.
